Another List of Must Read Books

OK, it seems that reporters in the UK have lots of time to create interesting reading lists (See this entry from PACL Reference & Resources for a similar list). Here is a list of the 50 Best Cult Books. How many have you read? I can count at least half I read, though I didn't enjoy some of them.

I'm going to say If on a Winter’s Night a Traveller by Calvino if my favorite on the list and within my top 5 best books ever written. Calvino is my Italian literary god. Pavese is up there too in case anyone is just dying to get into modern Italian literature...oh yes and Ortese's The Iguana! For anyone who is into magical realism meeting strange science fiction...Falling in love with an Iguana monster lady? Bring on the metaphor!

Nietzche is up there and of course, especially for scholarly bragging street cred, and I can't have really been a literature student without having an obsession with Catcher in the Rye. Most profound literary passage of all time... "all morons hate it when you call them a moron." Preach on Salinger!
